Basketball player suspected of assault CSKA Alexei Shved said the fight took place because of the athletes wife.
On May 1, CSKA lost to Lokomotiv Kuban (100:103) in Game 7 of the United League semi-final playoff series and dropped out of the tournament. In the evening of the same day, unknown persons attacked Shved near one of the restaurants in Moscow, the player suffered head injuries with fractures of the bones of the skull and a contusion of the brain.
– There was a verbal engagement with Alexei’s wife, because of which he intervened, and physical contact began between me and him. He came over and touched me, then I grabbed him by the jacket and swept away. He landed on the ground. I looked at his friend who was behind me because I didn’t feel safe. Then a blow came to Shved behind my back, – the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports the words of the first suspect.
There was a fight between my friends and a girl. There was a verbal skirmish that escalated into a fight with the men who left the restaurant to help the girl. They are basketball players, one of them was Alexey Shved. When it turned into a personal challenge to us, mainly my friend, he started responding to the girl, then the Swede heard that, came out and started protecting her. In the end, everything degenerated into a fight,” added the second suspect.
CSKA previously reported that the basketball player was out of action for an indefinite period. He will not be able to take part in the team’s next matches in the series for third place in the VTB League.
Moscow police have opened a criminal case, the attackers face up to 12 years in prison. The Interior Ministry’s press service said on Wednesday that the suspects in the attack had been arrested.
