CSKA basketball player Alexei Shved – a calm person, he could not provoke someone’s aggression, the captain of Kazan UNICS told Andrei Vorontsevich commenting on the Red-Blue defender’s attack in Moscow.
On May 1, CSKA lost to Krasnodar club Lokomotiv-Kuban (100:103) in the seventh game of the VTB United League semi-final playoff series and ended the title fight. In the evening of the same day, unknown persons attacked Shved near one of the restaurants in Moscow, the player suffered head injuries with fractures of the bones of the skull and a contusion of the brain.
“Of course, it was just terrible news for me. The people who attacked the Swede must be held responsible. Alexey is a good friend of mine, a very calm person, and I don’t believe he can provoke someone’s assault. We’re all worried about him and wish him a speedy recovery,” Vorontsevich told a correspondent.
On Wednesday, the Interior Ministry announced the arrest of three suspects in the Shved attack. They explained that the fight took place because of the athlete’s wife. A criminal case has been opened, the attackers risk up to 12 years in prison.
CSKA announced on Tuesday that Shved could not take part in the team’s games in the series for third place in the United League.
