The new head coach of the women’s national team plans to hold a training camp in the summer
Head coach Ukrainian women’s team basketball Evgeny Murzin said that his main goal would be the return of the team to EuroBasket.
“Twice in a row the national team did not reach the final part of the European Championship. So there can be only one goal – to return to EuroBasket. The qualifying cycle lasts two years and, perhaps, this is one of the last chances for this roster to reach the European championship, after which the team will definitely rejuvenate.”
“Of course, we will introduce young players. The backbone of the team will remain, experienced players treat their work professionally, but we will involve several young basketball players in the work and see how they will look against the background of more experienced players.”
“I would like to have a training camp in the summer. There must be communication, there must be work, perhaps not even with the main players, but with candidates for the national team. The federation will make a decision, but, in my opinion, participation in tournaments is necessary, because in official matches there is no time for experiments and tests, there you already need to play for the result.
“In May, we have one control game planned in Spain. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to get together with the strongest squad, Yagupova, Filevich and Uro-Nile won’t be able to join. Filevich and Uro-Nile are now with the 3×3 team, and Alina needs to take a break from another successful season. In Spain, we will have three training sessions and one game, and we would like more such tournaments.”
“I will continue to work with the men’s team of Prykarpattya-Hoverla. Despite the emotional differences, the key rules, laws and principles are the same in both women’s and men’s basketball.”
Murzin led the Ukrainian national team in April. The specialist was previously an assistant to Srdjan Radulovic in the women’s national team.
Recall that the Ukrainian women’s team led by Radulovych did not qualify for the 2023 European Basketball Championship. The blue-yellows did not make it to the championship, losing in terms of the best second places to Hungary, Slovakia, Great Britain and Germany.
