Monty Williams steps down as NBA head coach “Phoenix Suns” according to the team’s press office.
“We are so grateful for everything Monty has done for the club,” Phoenix general manager James Jones said.
According to ESPN, the decision to fire the 51-year-old coach was made by club owner Mat Ishbia following the team’s loss to Denver in the second round of the playoffs. Phoenix lost the series to the Nuggets 2–4.
Williams led the Phoenix in 2019, in the 2020/21 season the team reached the playoff finals, where they lost to Milwaukee. The specialist received the award for the best coach in the NBA in 2022.
