The end of the season stood out for the Moscow CSKA incredibly difficult, VTB United League bronze is not the result the team wanted to see, the basketball club’s chief executive told Andrey Vatutine .
On Monday, CSKA basketball players defeated Zenit St. Petersburg at home in the fifth game of the series for third place in the VTB United League and won the tournament bronze medals.
– Needless to say, a difficult end to the season: it was a failure in the semi-finals, an attack on Alexei Shved and the sudden death of the head coach of the youth team, Predrag Badnyarovich. Of course, bronze is not what we wanted at the start of the season, the ambitions and the quality of basketball in the regular season allowed us to hope for more.
There were a lot of good things, I mean the spectacular basketball itself, and the team vibe, their interaction with the coaching staff. We set a record for the number of consecutive wins, collected many individual prizes, but did not achieve the main goal. So the season left an ambiguous impression, but it’s good to end it at home with a victory and medals.
In general, we succeeded in the series for third place: we won four matches in a row, although in the first lost meeting in Moscow the team looked emotionally devastated, completely without energy. Formally, it was a series for bronze, but I saw it more as a series of attitude, of respect for the fans, so I want to thank the team and the technical staff for not giving up and d have shown character. After the first game in the locker room, everyone spoke frankly, and that helped us. Now it is very important to figure out what went wrong and work on the mistakes.
I want to thank fans, families, relatives and friends, thank you very much for your support, it’s very important for us, we will try to melt the more expensive metal bronze, Vatutin told .
