“UNICS came into today’s match with the mindset ‘if you lose, you will die’ – Lokomotiv-Kuban coach Sekulich

The head coach Lokomotiv Kuban Alexander Sekulich commented on the team’s final loss in the United League final.

Tuesday UNICS defeated Krasnodar Lokomotiv-Kuban with a score of 98:89 in the fifth game of the final elimination series and became the tournament champion for the first time in history.

– It seemed to me that UNICS came into today’s game with the mindset “if you lose, you die” – and that’s how our team should have started the game. In the second half, we looked like we could stage a chase. But for the Kazan team, Nenad Dimitrievich stood out – he showed why he is the most valuable player in this final and, perhaps, a big world star in the short term.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to our players – what they achieved and how they fought. In the playoffs, we had to start each series away, which is very difficult, but we reached the final – and there we had every chance of winning in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th games – it’s a shame that we didn’t have enough for this experience.

I think I was lucky to be a mentor to these guys – promising Russian players, each capable of becoming a star, and American legionnaires who played very well and gave everything to make the team in as a whole and from each of the partners Today I gave the youngsters a lot of time – but not because we gave up, but because I was sure that these guys would benefit the team, – the service United League press release quoted Sekulich.

Last season’s United League matches were broadcast by the Match family channels.
