IBA Basketball Club General Manager Igor Kocharyan spoke to about the Red-Whites’ goals and selection for the upcoming season, and also noted that he was positive about VTB’s expansion United League with 14 teams.
At the VTB United League council on Wednesday, the MBA club was accepted as a full member of the league. Last season, the capital club was on probation. It was also announced that Runa and Uralmash were among the tournament participants.
According to the results of the regular season, MBA took sixth place in Group A. In the quarterfinals, Muscovites lost to Zenit (1–3).
– This is a joyous event for us, because at last year’s league council it was indicated that we were accepted for a trial period. During the calendar year, we had no questions, the leadership of the league suited our level of sport, as well as the level of our management, marketing, etc. And today we were approved as full members of the VTB United League. We have worked all season to justify the trust placed in us. This encourages further work to become even better.
Now we have a better idea of what awaits us next season, both sportingly and in terms of the organization of matches, the various requirements and regulations. We look to the future with enthusiasm and hope to strengthen all positions, both sporting and managerial.
– What do you think of the appearance of Runa and Uralmash in the United League?
– We are positive about the expansion of the tournament. New clubs – new emotions and, of course, an increase in the number of matches. In principle, with very positive thoughts, we are waiting for the new season. The new tournament format is quite interesting.
— What are the goals and objectives of the IBA for the next season?
“The goal is to always win and look decent in the top league. It will all depend on the selection. Now the work on forming the squad doesn’t stop, it’s daily. I hope that in the near future we will close the positions that need special attention and that we can plan in. The most important thing is to look decent and confirm the level we reached last season.
– In a word, sixth place in the regular season?
“Now until the selection is over, it’s hard to say, but there’s no desire to go down,” Kocharyan told .
