The VTB United League has announced on its website that in the new season, in addition to the regular season and playoffs, a play-in format will be introduced.
It is reported that, like the previous season, the regular season will be held in two stages. In the first stage, all teams will play two rounds, after which there will be a division into groups “A” (teams that took 1-6 places) and “B” (teams that took 7-14 places). In the second stage, the teams will play each other in their groups for 2 more rounds. Group A teams qualify directly for the playoffs.
The new play-in stage will feature the top four teams from Group B following the results of the second stage, clubs will fight for the two remaining places in the play-offs.
Based on regular season and play-in results, eight teams will be determined who will advance to the playoffs. The quarter-final series will also take place up to three wins, semi-final and final – up to four, a series for 3rd place – up to three.
Following last season’s results, UNICS won the playoff final against Lokomotiv-Kuban. In the series for third place, CSKA defeated Zenit.
