In the new season, the player will represent Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)
Defender of the Ukrainian national team U-20 Maxim Shulga spoke about his desire to nominate himself for the NBA draft after the 2023/24 season.
“I can take another fifth coronavirus year in college, but I don’t think I will. After next season, I think I’ll go for the NBA draft. After that, I will already look at proposals from Europe.”
“You can go to the draft once in a lifetime, so why not do it? Right after college, when the scouts are watching closely, this is the best time to do it. Now it’s hard to say something, but the plan is that if nothing comes out in the draft, I’ll leave to play in Europe.”
Shulga changed his team and will spend his next season at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). The Ukrainian will spend his fourth season in the NCAA.
The quarterback previously played for Utah State. Shulga will continue to work with coach Ryan Odom, who moved to VCU after two seasons in Utah.
Last season, in 35 games (34 at the start), Maxim scored 11.9 points, made 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists on average per game. At the end of the season, the Ukrainian received an individual All-Mountain West Conference award.
Shulga played in the Ukrainian U-20 team at EuroBasket 2022. The Blue-Yellows have lost their place in Division A of the European Championship and will play in Division B in 2023.
