Team Head Coach Russia basketball Zoran Lukic says what should motivate players in the conditions of suspension of international departures.
Earlier, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) suspended the Russian team from participating in the selection for the 2024 Olympics and EuroBasket-2025. Russian clubs also do not participate in international tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine.
– Is it difficult in the current conditions to gather guys in the national team? No, these are young people who have enough motivation. They are eager for any opportunity to prove themselves. At one time, we had a good start in selection for the World Cup, but now it is ancient history. We cannot change the current situation. We just have to work and move in the right direction.
I’ve already told the guys that now I see the same faces as last training camp, but they’re completely different players. It gives hope for the future,” Lukic said on Match Strana TV’s Top View show.
At the end of May, the Russian national team began work at the Novogorsk training camp, during which they will play two friendly matches with the Belarusian team (June 9 and 11).
