spanish basketball club “Gran Canaria” refused to participate in the Euroleague 2023/24 season for financial reasons, according to the team’s press service.
– Today an extraordinary meeting of the club’s board of directors took place to evaluate the report drawn up by the organization and vote on the team’s possible participation in the Euroleague.
After analyzing the situation and voting, the board of directors unanimously decided not to participate in the next Euroleague draw for financial reasons and to play in the Eurocup again, the statement said.
Last season, Gran Canaria became the winner of the men’s Eurocup, beating Turkey’s Turk Telekom in the final. According to the regulations, the winner of the Eurocup automatically obtains a place in the Euroleague for the following season.
Gran Canaria last participated in Europe’s most prestigious club competition in the 2018/19 season, but the club then faced serious financial problems.
