NBA suspends Ja Morant for 25 games

Memphis defender re-branded firearm

National Basketball Association (NBA) disqualified defenseman Memphis Ja Moranta for 25 matches in the new season.

On May 14, the Grizzlies suspended their player after a video surfaced on social media of Morant brandishing a firearm. Previously, the basketball player has already received an eight-game suspension from the NBA when he was seen drunk with a gun in one of the nightclubs in March.

“Ja Morant’s decision to use firearms again is troubling given his similar behavior in March, for which he was already suspended for eight games. Other young people will imitate Jah’s behavior. Under the circumstances, we deem a 25-game suspension appropriate and make it clear that reckless and irresponsible gun handling is unacceptable,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement.

To return, the player will have to fulfill a number of NBA conditions. During the suspension, Morant will not be eligible to participate in any Association or team activities, including pre-season games.

Memphis finished second in the Western Conference in the NBA regular season. The Grizzlies lost to the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs.
