Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant will lose up to $60 million due to a 25-game suspension, according to ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst.
On Friday, the National Basketball Association (NBA) suspended Morant for 25 games. The reason for the suspension was an incident involving Morant, who demonstrated a gun on a social media show. This is the second such case involving an athlete.
He will not be paid for these 25 games and for the last eight. I have no doubt that he would have made the team of the season without this incident. It cost him $40 million in bonuses. Maybe even closer to $60 million, including lost sponsorship money, Windhorst said.
Morant has been with the Grizzlies since 2019, was a two-time NBA All-Star and was named 2020 Rookie of the Year.
The NBA champion for the season was Denver, which beat Miami 4-1 in the series finale.
