Prometheus does not plan to play in the Major League

The club signed an agreement with the FBU, which stipulates the conditions for the participation of the team in the Super League and the Latvian-Estonian League

Prometheus sent an official letter to the President Basketball Federation of Ukraine (FBU) Mikhail Brodsky, in which he stated thatHe plans to play in the Major League next season. The club from Slobozhansky claims that the conditions for the team’s participation in the Superleague were agreed in advance in an agreement with the FBU.

“Mikhail Yurievich, in your answer you refer to the agreement signed on March 15, 2023 between the FBU, the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League and BC Prometheus, sent and registered with FIBA Europe. After signing the agreement, FBU Secretary General Vladimir Drabikovsky announced that BC Prometheus would take part in the Super League in 2023-2024.

According to paragraph 2.1. Agreement, the basketball club Prometheus undertook:

  • unconditionally, release the players of the national teams of Ukraine in case of receiving a call from the FBU in accordance with the conditions of the call;
  • ensure proper participation of the team in the Ukrainian Basketball Championship among men’s teams of Division A (Super League) during the 2023-2024 seasons;
  • ensure the proper participation of 3 teams (boys) in the All-Ukrainian Youth Basketball League in the 2023-2024 season and an additional one team (girls) in the 2024-2025 season;
  • ensure the participation of Ukrainian players in each game of the Club in the PAF Estonian Latvian Basketball League, namely, the presence of at least four Ukrainian players in the technical application of the team for each game;

In addition, on the eve of the signing of the agreement, it was at the initiative of the FBU and Mikhail Brodsky personally that clause 2.2 was included, which provides for the following:

“Any players of the Club’s team registered for the PAF Estonian Latvian Basketball League Basketball League season cannot participate in the Club’s team participating in the Ukrainian Championship during the same season.”

Therefore, it is completely incomprehensible for us your message at the end of the answer to the letter of the players of the Ukrainian national team that you once again asked the question of the participation of BC Prometheus in the Superleague championship only if the players of the national team return to play in the Ukrainian championship.

Also, we inform the basketball community of Ukraine that BC Prometheus sent a letter to the FBU that he is ready to support the national team of Ukraine and allocate 3 million hryvnias in sponsorship.

It is possible that the decision to exclude the club from the Superleague was made by the members of the Executive Committee, due to ignorance of the terms of the Agreement, which was concluded. If so, then our club is ready to publish the agreement signed by all parties for the entire basketball community.”

“PS BC Prometheus announces that it does not plan to enter the Major League, as it has a coaching and playing staff formed before last season, which will fight with dignity for the championship of Ukraine. Many of our players are players of the Ukrainian national teams of different ages or candidates for the national teams, and for their further growth, they have the right and must play in the strongest Ukrainian basketball league.”

The full content of the letter from BC Prometheus can be found at official website of the club.

Earlier, the FBU offered Prometheus to play in the Premier League in the 2023/24 season. Since the club from Slobozhansky missed the last season, according to the regulations, the team could enter the lower division (Major League).

FBU President Mikhail Brodsky said that he was ready to return the issue of Prometheus’ participation in the Superleague to the Executive Committee, if the main team agrees to participate in the Ukrainian championship. If the team plans to use youth for the tournament, the FBU will uphold the offer to apply to the Major League.

Prometheus ended the season by reaching the Eurocup semi-finals. Also, Ronen Ginzburg’s wards became the winners of the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League.
