“We have increased competition in this position” – IBA chief executive on Pushkov’s departure from the club

CEO MBA Igor Kocharyan, in a conversation with , explained his departure Anton Pushkov from the club due to increased competition in the center position and thanked the player for his contribution to the team’s success last season.

On Wednesday, the IBA press service announced on the club’s official website that the 34-year-old center was leaving the team. Pushkov became a player for the Moscow club before the start of last season. Previously, the basketball player played for Zenit, in which he became the champion of the VTB United League.

Last season, the Moscow club made their United League debut, where they took 6th place in Group A following regular season results and lost to Zenit in the quarter-finals of the playoffs.

– Here only words of gratitude to Anton. In a very important period, during the formation of the club, Pushkov joined the MBA. The past season has gone positively and his role has been very important. Not always, maybe, everything worked out in terms of basketball, there were injuries somewhere, but Anton always tried to be ready and helped on the court and beyond. So overall last season we all worked. Again, I can only thank Anton. I wish him the best.

– Why did the club and the player break up?

– In principle, our competition in this position has increased slightly. Plus there’s our young player Maxim Savchenko. So that’s the main reason,” Kocharyan told a correspondent.

Pushkov played a total of 32 games for the MBA, averaging 4.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.
