“All Russian clubs are suffering.” Vice-president of PBC CSKA on the extension of the suspension by the Euroleague

vice-president PBC CSKA in sports work, Natalia Furaeva told that all Russian teams are suffering due to the suspension of European competitions.

On July 4, the Euroleague board extended the suspension of Russian clubs for next season.

— We participated in many preliminary meetings. It was discussed for a long time, it was decided beforehand. We do not expect the Euroleague to become an organization that, at the forefront of all sports organizations, will change its mind. They will follow the instructions of the world organizations.

– Does it greatly affect the club’s budget?

— We play half as many matches, do not receive funding from the Euroleague, the sponsors who were interested in positioning themselves in the Euroleague refuse. All Russian clubs that do not participate in European competitions suffer from this, Furaeva told .

Initially, the Euroleague, under the auspices of which the Eurocup is also held, excluded Russian clubs from the tournaments in March 2022. This decision was made due to the situation in Ukraine. CSKA Moscow, UNICS Kazan and Zenit St. Petersburg could not complete the Euroleague 2021/22 season, Krasnodar Lokomotiv Kuban failed in the Eurocup. In June last year, the suspension of Russian teams from tournaments for the 2022/23 season was announced.

Last season, UNICS Kazan became the winner of the VTB United League for the first time in history.
