Gomelsky says Russian clubs need to look for basketball players ‘before they shine’

Commentator Vladimir Gomelsky believes that Russian clubs should follow the path of European top club academies and look for talented players within the CIS.

– Take the United States, where athletes study in universities and dream of entering the NBA. Usually, after two years of playing in the student league, the first contract is signed with them. To get a potentially strong player who can open up in the future, you need to immediately offer a little more money than the NBA. And it is not a fact whether he will be brought on a salary and move to Russia.

In Spain, Italy, France and now Germany, clubs sign contracts with parents. Moreover, they prescribe both the educational system and the amount of the transfer if the young man wants to leave the team. Therefore, it is quite difficult to find a promising and undrafted young basketball player in Europe.

It is better to follow the path of the academies of Real Madrid and Barcelona. To watch the talents before they shine, invite them to Moscow, give them an education – not only basketball, but also general. And treat yourself to super talented shoots. I think if you go this way, you need to look for guys inside the CIS, – quotes the words of Gomel RT.
