The NBA has created a new intra-season tournament

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced a new annual intra-season tournament, to be held for the first time in the 2023/24 season.

The competition will take place from November 3 to December 9, the tournament will consist of a group stage and a knockout round. The semi-finals and the final will take place in Las Vegas.

The 30 teams will be split into six groups of five teams in their respective conferences based on their performance in the previous season’s regular season.

In the West, the Memphis Grizzlies, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazers will play in Pool A. Pool B includes the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans, the Dallas Mavericks and the Houston Rockets. Group C will include the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs.

In the Eastern Conference, the draw was as follows: Group A – Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers, Detroit Pistons; Group B – Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, Charlotte Hornets; Group C – Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic.

The teams will play the group stage in one round. The group winners will advance to the playoffs, along with one team from each conference with the highest finish among the finalists.
