Investigators complete investigation into criminal case of theft of money and property from basketball team’s locker room “Khimki” said the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk.
The crime was committed in Khimki in June 2019 during the third game of the VTB United League final series between Khimki and CSKA. Investigators say the accused, from Ukraine, entered the changing room of the arena owners, stole money and luxury watches from the pockets of the athletes’ clothes and bags, then disappeared . The total amount of damage amounted to more than 1.5 million rubles.
Police identified the suspect, who turned out to be a man with previous multiple robbery convictions. Immediately after the commission of the crime, he left the territory of Russia, in connection with which he was placed on the international wanted list. In 2022, the accused was detained on the territory of Belarus and extradited to Russia.
At present, the investigation of the criminal case relating to a crime under Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation has been completed. She, together with the indictment approved by the prosecutor, was submitted to the court for consideration on the merits, ”said Irina Volk, whose words are quoted by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation provides for a term of imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine of up to 1 million rubles.
