Moscow basketball club CSKA fired two players who previously played for the team, Anton Astapkovich and Artem Komolov and broke up with the defender Yevgeny Kolesnikov according to the team’s press office.
Astapkovich signed a three-year contract with CSKA, Komolov a two-year contract. Astapkovich, 28, played for CSKA in 2015-2018, became the champion of the Euroleague and VTB United League in its composition. The striker has spent the last four years at Nizhny Novgorod. 29-year-old defender Komolov from 2009 to 2014 played for the “junior” teams of the “red-blue”. Last season he moved to Kazan UNICS. Both players represented the Russian national team in the qualifying tournaments of the 2022 European Championship, the 2020 Olympics and the 2023 World Cup.
– I am happy to welcome our “base” students, whose professional development we have been following closely for several years. Anton and Artem have matured as basketball players and personalities, they have shown themselves in big basketball and do not need characteristics – the fans know exactly what they are capable of. I’m sure the guys are ready to help the team achieve results in the coming years and become an example for a new generation of young players,” said CSKA President Andrey Vatutin.
A pupil of the “youth team” of CSKA Kolesnikov joined the army team in April. The 36-year-old basketball player left Avtodor Saratov, managed to play five matches for CSKA in the VTB United League, but did not score in attack.
– As part of our team, Evgeny accepted an unusual role, being in deep reserve, but with honor he performed everything that the coaching staff demanded of him. As a talented and experienced player, he has done a tremendous amount of training and helped build chemistry within the team. At Avtodor, Kolesnikov showed great basketball, so I’m sure he’s capable of keeping the helm and becoming one of the leaders of another VTB League team. Eugene is a true professional and a great person, very responsive, on whom you can always count. I’m sure he will show his level” Vatutin said.
Last season, CSKA reached the final of the VTB United League, where they lost in the series to Zenit St. Petersburg – 3-4.
