The New York Liberty clinched the midseason title after defeating the eventual champion, the Las Vegas Aces, in the final.
For the first time in its history, and beat in the final no more or less than the best team in all of 2022 and so far in 2023, Liberty won the Commissioner’s Cup titlethe contest that takes place in the middle of the season of WNBA with the great level of Jonquel Jones, was chosen as the MVP once the match ended.
The win for Sandy Brondello’s team was 82-63, which reduced the Aces to a level lower than what they have shown in previous seasons, leading them to lose only three games out of 30 in the current regular season. In this matchup between the two most powerful teams in the WNBA this year, Jonquel Jones (16 points with 15 rebounds, Finals MVP) and Marine Johannes (17 points coming off the bench) were the leading scorers for the New Yorkers.
Breanna Stewart (13 units and 7 boards), sabrina ionescu (12 points and 8 rebounds) and Courtney Vandersloot (11 points and 10 assists) was also key to a Liberty team that trailed 34-32 at halftime and dominated a big second half (50-29). Jackie Young (16 units), kelsey plum (15 points and 6 assists) and Chelsea Gray (15 points and 6 rebounds) was the most outstanding of the few Aces who did not have the best version of hey wilson (9 points with just 2/10 from the field).

The rematch shouldn’t wait long for the Aces, as This Thursday they will see their faces again as the WNBA regular season continues. Starting at 11 pm they will meet in a new rivalry between the two best teams of the year at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
