Training at Lokomotiv-Kuban is going strictly as planned, despite the absence of head coach Alexander Sekulich in the squad, the Red-Greens defender told . Alexander Chcherbenev.
Lokomotiv became runners-up in the VTB United League last season. This week, the railway workers came out of vacation and started training. Sekulic is also the head coach of the Slovenian national team and is currently preparing the team for the World Cup in Japan.
— How were the first days of work at Lokomotiv after the team vacation?
– GOOD. On August 14, they underwent a medical examination, and then training began. Thank goodness our team hasn’t changed much, and we’ve kept the backbone. So we all understand our roles in the team and the requirements of the coach. Now we are driving slowly. Some players, including me, have now returned from the national team – we are already in the rhythm of the game, and it is a little easier for us. But the rest of the guys also trained during the summer. I think now we will quickly get back in shape and we will prepare for friendly matches. Now we have two training sessions a day: in the morning we go to the gym, in the evening we practice interaction.
– Lokomotiv is still working without head coach Alexander Sekulich, who is currently preparing the Slovenian national team for the World Cup. Is it harder without?
– Everything is fine. His assistant Yuritsa Zhuzha is currently working with us. He knows Sekulich’s training philosophy. Zhuzha is in contact with him, calls. So everything is fine. In principle, we were without a head coach last year during the pre-season. So it’s much easier now than it was last year. Because we already know the system well, all the exercises, the combinations,” Shcherbenev told a correspondent.
The FIBA World Championship will take place from August 25 to September 10 in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines.
