Kyiv club selects a hall in Europe
The Basketball Federation of Ukraine called for Budivelnik direct ticket to the group round Champions League.
FBU President Mikhail Brodsky addressed the head of the tournament, Patrick Komminos, with a corresponding appeal.
“The war continues in Ukraine, and we do not know when it will end. But for us it is already clear that in Ukraine there will be no opportunity to hold a full-fledged championship this season. Fortunately, there are clubs that are ready to play and the importance of their presence in international competitions is priceless. Ukrainian basketball must live,” the statement said.
“Today, one of the flagships of Ukraine, the capital Budivelnik, has the opportunity and is ready to take part in the main European tournament – the Champions League. Budivelnik’s management is selecting a hall in Europe and is ready to form a squad for participation in the Champions League at the appropriate level.”
In June, the Kyiv club applied for participation in the next season of the Basketball Champions League.
Budivelnik was second in the Super League table when the championship was forced to stop in February due to the Russian invasion.
Earlier, FBU Secretary General Volodymyr Drabikovsky said that the new basketball season in Ukraine could start in October in an unusual format.
