Mikhailyuk and Panathinaikos suspend transfer talks

The Ukrainian demanded to include in the contract a clause on the unilateral termination of the contract for leaving the NBA club

Ukrainian defender Svyatoslav Mikhailyuk suspended negotiations with Panathinaikos about the transition.

Earlier, the Greek club offered the Ukrainian a two-year contract with a salary of $2.5 million a year. Mikhailyuk demanded to include a clause on the possibility of terminating the contract at any time if the Ukrainian receives an offer from the NBA. Panathinaikos agreed to such an opportunity for a certain period in the summer of 2024 after the end of the first season of cooperation. The Ukrainian side does not accept such a compromise.

It was reported that Real and Olympia were also interested in Mikhailyuk. The Ukrainian wanted to include the same clause on early retirement at any time in the contract, which did not suit the Euroleague clubs.

In February, Mikhailyuk joined the Charlotte Hornets. The Ukrainian became part of an exchange between the Portland Trail Blazers, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Hornets. Now Svyatoslav is in the status of a free agent.

In the 2022/23 season, Mikhailyuk played 19 matches for Charlotte. The defender averaged 10.6 points and 2.7 assists per game.

Panathinaikos took the penultimate place in the Euroleague. In the Greek Basketball League, the club lost in the final to Olympiakos.
