Sheikh of Qatar unanimously elected FIBA ​​President

Qatari Sheikh Saud Ali al-Thani has become president of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), according to the FIBA ​​website.

Al-Thani was elected unanimously at the FIBA ​​Congress, which is being held in Manila. He succeeds the Malian Hamane Nyang.

“I am honored to take on this responsibility. From now on, I represent the interests of the 212 national federations on all continents. Basketball is a global sport. It is our most important strength. I can only make one promise: I will work diligently with the leadership of FIBA ​​for the good of basketball and the organization,” al-Thani said.

Previously, al-Thani was Vice President of FIBA, President of FIBA ​​Asia Zone, Head of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee.
