Group A of the World Cup had two great games on the first day
Italy and the Dominican Republic opened group A of the basketball world cup with victories. In the first round, Italy defeated Angola by a margin of 81 to 67, while the Dominican Republic did the same against the Philippines by 87 to 81.
ANGOLA 67 – ITALY 81
The match that opened the World Cup between Angola and Italy had an even development despite the final result. The European team, despite having a good run in the first quarter, was unable to break the game open until its final minutes. The men led by Pozzecco gave only 10 points to their rivals in the last quarter of the match, thus achieving a victory of 67 to 81.
Simone Fontecchio, with 19 points (7/8 TC 2 pts.) and 5 rebounds, was the most outstanding of the winning team. Stefano Tonut followed him in scoring, adding 18 points. The player who completed the offensive trident, reaching ten points, was Giampaolo Ricci, with 12 goals.
In Angola, Childe Dundao added 19 points to become his team’s top scorer. Bruno Fernando was the other player to surpass double digits, with 13 units accompanied by 5 rebounds.

The second match of group A gave us an entertaining show, with the marker changing its lead throughout the game. Although it did not show in the result, the Caribbean team was superior throughout the last quarter and ended up losing to the locals 87-81.
Karl-Anthony Towns was one of the figures of the match, with 26 units, of which 15 were from the free throw line, and 10 rebounds. Victor Liz, with 18 points and 6 rebounds, and Andres Feliz, who scored 12 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 8 assists, were the other standouts in the Dominican Republic.
The scorer of the game was Jordan Clarkson, with 28 points converted, to which he added 7 goal passes, although he had 8 lost balls. June Mar Fajardo with 16 points and Dwight Ramos with 13 completed the offensive trident in the Philippines.
