Yagupova will not play for the national team of Ukraine in 3×3 basketball at the European Championship

The coaching staff of the Turkish Chukurova did not let Alina go to the continental championship

The Basketball Federation of Ukraine announced that the captain of the Ukrainian women’s team Alina Yagupova will not play for the national team 3v3 on European Championship 2023.

Yagupova was ready to help the Ukrainian team 3×3, but the Ukrainian club Chukurov did not let Alina go to the continental championship.

“Considering that, according to the calendar, Chukurova had to start in the new championship with a match against Fenerbahce, the team’s coaching staff did not let Yagupova join the Ukrainian national team. Thus, Alina Yagupova will not help the Ukrainian team at the European 3×3 Championships,” the FBU said in a statement.

In the 2022/23 season, Alina became the winner of the Euroleague as part of Fenerbahce, and also entered the symbolic team of the tournament. In June, Yagupova returned to the Turkish club Chukurov, signing a three-year contract with a team from the city of Mersin.

At the European Championship 2023, Ukraine was in Group A, where it will play with France and the Czech Republic. The two best teams from the group will advance to the 1/4 finals of the continental championship.

The European 3×3 Basketball Championship will take place on September 5-7 in Jerusalem. The winner of the championship will receive a ticket to the second qualifying Olympic tournament.
