President of the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) Andrei Kirilenko on the air of the program “Loud!” on “” he spoke about the development program, the popularity of street basketball centers, as well as the emergence of Russian players in leadership positions in clubs.
– What do you plan to do in terms of basketball development program?
– We develop the regions. We have a grant program. The conditions are set: tournaments for children, a layer of infrastructure, etc. By the end of September, we will have 20 street basketball centers. The center of national teams should soon appear in Vnukovo.
More than 250,000 people pass through street basketball centers each year. I just arrived from Kemerovo, a lot of people don’t just play, but just come to hang out.
– What are you satisfied with?
— I’m very happy with how the series finale of the previous season went [Единой лиги ВТБ]. In the past, what were the semi-finals. In women’s basketball, each team has a Russian leader.
There would be no happiness, but unhappiness helps. A large number of Russian players have held managerial positions in clubs. I want young players to improve as well.
The Super Cup will open the season, two Turkish clubs will participate. I’m sure the strongest players will play. Fenerbahce is a solid team. I’m sure they are also interested in us. Our teams also have the strongest basketball experience.
— Is the inclusive basketball program working?
– Works very well. My favorite project is Quiet Basketball. Children in wheelchairs and hard of hearing. I am happy that we are implementing this program for the second year. We have the opportunity to give them attention and resources. Such a basketball is built into the 3X3. For me, these guys are a fantastic example in terms of motivation. It’s very cool. Motto – “Quiet does not mean loud!” We have to speak loudly about these guys because they are used to not being talked about,” Kirilenko said on .
From September 21 to 24, Moscow will host the VTB United League Super Cup. UNICS, Lokomotiv Kuban, CSKA, Zenit, PARI Nizhny Novgorod, MBA (all from Russia), Fenerbahce, Besiktas (both from Turkey) will participate in the tournament.
In March 2022, the Euroleague announced that CSKA, Zenit Saint Petersburg and UNICS Kazan had been excluded from the tournament due to the situation in Ukraine and their results had been cancelled. Russian clubs are also not participating in the new European Cup season.
