First World Cup win for France

France defeated Lebanon 85-79 and the two teams will play for the 17-32 ranking.

France rallied in the final quarter to build a lead and win against Lebanon, 85-79. Both teams found themselves without a chance to qualify for the second round, as they lost their first appearances. Canada and Latvia defeated them and qualified for the quarterfinals of group H.

The first half of the match was very even, with a good 11-2 run for Lebanon, led by Arakji and Darwich, which allowed them to pull away by 10 midway through the second quarter. However, the European team overcame that difference, with a good passage from Yabusele. After taking advantage of their rival’s drought, France took the lead at halftime.

The second half continued on the line with parity, until the final minutes of the final period. The French had to work hard to win against Lebanon, which made them struggle to reach the final 85-79.

Standouts in the winning team were Guerschon Yabusele, with 18 points (6/7 SS2 and 1/2 SS3), Even Fournier converting 17 points, and Batum and Okobo, both with 12.

Wael Arakji was the top scorer of the match with 29 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists. Others reaching double digits for Lebanon were Ali Haidar, who converted 12 points and Omari Spellman, who had 10 points.
