In Group N of the competition that parallels the final stage of the World Cup, there are Mexico, New Zealand, Egypt and Jordan. On the first day the teams started to dispute positions from 17 to 32. Both games were played at the “Mall Of Asia” stadium in Manila, Philippines.
Mexico dominates New Zealand
The Mexicans started to control the game from the beginning (22-31 C1 and 19-26 C2). At the start of the second half of the match, the New Zealanders knew how to recover from that deficit (27-21 C3 and 32-30 C4). But those directed by Omar Quintero, did not give up and achieved victory leaving a good percentage in triples of 56%.
Quintero’s team was unable to play Daniel Amigo, who again suffered from his knee injury. Even Moisés Andriassi, who was injured again.
The outstanding player of the game was Fabían Jaimes, chosen MVP for his performance, where he signed 17 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 1 steal. For the second sword of the team, Pako Cruz, it was a great match, leaving 27 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.
On the New Zealand side, the standout was Shea Ili, the guard, who scored 18 points and added 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 1 steal.
Jordan lost less than a third of its team
In the second game of the day, there was a vast Egyptian dominance, Jordan was able to close the pace of the game, ending the third quarter trailing by only three points, but Egypt did not let their lead slip away and got 2 points.
Assem Marei was selected as the most important player of the match, he signed 20 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 2 blocks. On the other hand, his teammate Karim El-Gizawy is not in the rotation due to the coach’s decision.
The curious thing about the game is that Jordan appeared to play with only eight players, Ahmad Dwari was the best of them with 17 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 3 blocks. The four competitors who did not even move are: Ahmad Hammouri, Mohammad Hussein, Zaid Abbas and Hashem Abbas.
