Mexico and Jordan under Group N

The second day of the qualifying round for positions 17 to 32 in Group N has ended. Today New Zealand – Egypt and Jordan – Mexico were played in Manila, Philippines. There were wins in New Zealand and Mexico but, after a three-way tie, the difference in statistical points left the Mexican team third in the group.

New Zealand 88 – Egypt 86

A very even match and, if we look at the results of the quarters, it seems to be a total Egyptian dominance, because three of them won. (C1 22-25/C2 25-10/C3 21-26/C4 20-25). But in the second block of ten minutes, New Zealand had a 15-point gap that they could hold onto to take the win and that distance was the key to achieving it.

Both teams have their full roster and all their players have a rotation in the game.

The outstanding ones in the winning team, under the direction of Pero Cameron were: Finn Delany, the MVP of the game, signed 27 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block. The other standout in New Zealand was Izayah Le’afa who had 27 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals coming off the bench. At first glance it seems that Izayah is better than his partner, but the advanced statistics give Delany the MVP.

On the Egyptian side, led by Roy Rana, the standout was Anas Mahmoud who scored 16 points, added to the 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 3 blocks he generated.

Jordan 80 – Mexico 93

Great game between the Mexican and Jordanian teams, there was parity on the scoreboard in the first half (C1 24-24/C2 19-19). But starting in the second half, Mexico started to gain an advantage, taking both quarters and with it, the game (C3 22-25/ C4 15-25). Despite the success of Omar Quintero’s team, New Zealand’s success against Egypt made things difficult for them. The Mexicans needed to win with a difference of 37 points against Jordan because of the triple group tie to stay in the top part, an event that did not happen.

But it’s not all bad for Mexico because it qualifies for next year’s Olympic playoffs, because it’s not among the last five places in the World Cup and because it’s not the worst American team here.

The highlights of the winner were, Gabriel Girón, who was selected as the most valuable player, left 21 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal in his statistics. Another great role was played by Paul Stoll with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.

The standout in Wesam Al-Sous’s team is Rondae Hollis Jefferson, the Jordanian Kobe Bryant, he had a great World Cup, he left great performances but unfortunately the results were not in his favor . He signed 26 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists and 1 block.

Only nine players played in Mexico due to the absence of Daniel Amigo, Moisés Andriassi and Jorge Camacho. In Jordan there are only two players who do not change, Freddy Ibrahim and Zaid Abbas.
