Serbia crushed the Dominican Republic for qualification

Absolute dominance by the Europeans, who came away with a massive victory and booked their ticket to the quarterfinals

At the end of the second stage of the FIBA World Cup 2023, Serbia once again showed that, with a low profile, it seeks to achieve glory in this tournament. The Europeans faced the Dominican Republic with an obligation to win and, after having their best game of the competition, they crushed those led by Néstor García. With a final score of 112-79, they finished the first period with a record of four wins and just one loss. It will occupy second place in group I, below Italy, and cross first in J.

It was hard to find any cracks in what was a near-perfect match for Serbia. Those led by Svetislav Pesic finished with 88% efficiency in doubles! A brutal 35/40 in the category, in addition to 32% (8/25) in triples. They also dominated the aerial fight, and took advantage of their 11 steals to punish the fast attack. In the paint they scored 70 points, against just 32 for their rival, who found no defensive response in 40 minutes.

We wouldn’t be wrong if we say that Bogdan Bogdanovic has a perfect match at this stage. The Atlanta Hawks player finished with 20 points, with 7/7 shooting from the field. Adempas distributed 5 assists in 22 minutes, for a total of 26 PIR. He was joined by Vanja Marinkovic, with 16 units; same amount as Nikola Milutinov; who also pulled down 5 rebounds and distributed 2 assists. In the Dominican Republic, Karl Anthony Towns wanted to have a hero’s outfit, but his 25 points and 7 rebounds were not enough for a team that accumulated 21 turnovers in 40 minutes. Jean Montero contributed 15 points, while Rigoberto Mendoza completed the offensive trident with 14.

This is how the tournament will continue

Group I already knows its two classifieds and the positions each will occupy. Both Italy and Serbia finished with a record of four wins and one loss. The rivalry between them, which went to Gianmarco Pozzecco’s men with a very tight 78 to 76, determined the placements. In this way, tanos will cross the second place in group J, while Pesic will do the same against the leader of the group.
