Serbian national basketball team striker Borisa Simanic has undergone surgery to remove a kidney after an injury sustained during a World Cup match against South Sudan.
The Group B encounter took place on August 30 and ended with a score of 115:83 in favor of the European team. Simanich suffered a blow to the kidney shortly before the end of the match and subsequently underwent surgery.
“Due to complications during the postoperative period, Simanich was operated on again on September 3 of the damaged kidney. Due to changes in tissue viability, the entire kidney had to be surgically removed. We hope and wish that after this operation the recovery will be successful, – said Serbian national team doctor Dragan Radovanovic.
The Serbian team finished second in Group I and will face the Lithuanian team in the quarter-finals of the World Cup. The tournament takes place in three countries: the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
Simanic is 25 years old, he is triple champion of Serbia, triple champion of the Adriatic League.
