Serbian national team player Boris Simanich left the championship ahead of schedule and, most likely, his sports career.

An unpleasant episode occurred during the World Basketball Championship, which continues in the Philippines. Serbian national team forward Boris Simanich was forced to leave his team’s location ahead of schedule.

The fact is that the basketball player received a terrible injury during the match in the group round and now threatens to end his sports career.

The episode took place on 30th August. Then in the match of the preliminary round, Serbia defeated South Sudan 115:83. However, Simanich received an elbow to the side from Sudanese striker Nuni Omota. The latter hit so hard that the 25-year-old Serb was unable to continue the match, playing just two minutes.

After the game, the athlete fell seriously ill and was taken to a hospital in Manila, where he underwent surgery that same night.

The basketball player had a severe internal hemorrhage. Serbian coach Svetislav Pesic said it was difficult to find the right blood for transfusion.

The Serbian Basketball Federation initially said that the player’s kidney, which hit Omot, and all its functions are safe. However, new information shows that this is not the case.

On Sunday, September 3, the basketball player underwent surgery again due to complications after monitoring his condition. Now Simanich is also at risk of ending his playing career.
