Defender of the Lokomotiv-Kuban club Alexander Shcherbenev told he was devastated by the defeat of the Slovenian national team at the World Cup, managed by Loko’s mentor Alexander Sekulich.
On Wednesday, Slovenia lost to Canada in the quarter-finals of the World Cup by a score of 89:100. In the semi-finals, the teams of Serbia and Canada as well as the United States and Germany s will face. Both games will be played on September 8.
– I was not able to watch the match between the Slovenians and Canada, because we ourselves had played a match at that time (a friendly match with Uralmash – editor’s note). Of course, I was upset by the loss of the Slovenian team. I wanted our coach Alexander Sekulich to come home with medals. Nevertheless, the Canadian team has good players and the depth of the bench is greater than that of the Slovenians.
At the same time, Slovenia suffered injuries during the preparation and key players missed this World Cup. It’s a shame. But it’s a sport, it’s basketball, and the fittest wins. To date, apparently, the Canadian team is more worthy of the semis. I am sure that the Slovenian team will prove itself in the next competitions. I am upset, of course, but on the other hand, the coach will come to see us earlier and we will prepare for the season in full force.
Expectations from the semi-finals? Very interesting couples. Especially the confrontation between the national teams of Serbia and Canada. I look forward to an interesting basketball. Favorites, in my opinion, are nowhere to be found. There are more or less equal teams here who are doing very well in this World Cup. I will be happy to follow who will reach the final, – Shcherbenev told .
