Dimitris Itoudis left the post of head coach of the Greek national basketball team, reports the press service of the Greek Basketball Federation.
As reported, the parties decided not to continue cooperation due to the employment of the 53-year-old specialist in Turkish Fenerbahçe.
— Participation in the pre-Olympic tournament at the beginning of July 2024 cannot be combined with Itoudis’ increased obligations in the Euroleague and the Turkish Championship with Fenerbahce. Since the coach himself always supported the interests of the national team, it was decided to part ways. However, Itoudis assured that he would always be with the team and provide assistance if necessary, the statement said.
Itoudis led the Greek national team before the start of the 2022 European Championship, where the team took fifth place. In 2023, the Greeks were eliminated in the second group round of the World Cup. From 2014 to 2022, Itoudis worked for CSKA Moscow, which won the VTB United League title six times and the Euroleague twice.
