The Ukrainian club won the trophy for the second time in a row
Prometheus won the pre-season tournament for the second time in a row Pinar Cup in Turkish Izmir.
In order to win the trophy, in the last match Ronen Ginzburg’s team had to either beat the home team, the Pinar Karsiyaka club, or lose with a difference of 7 points or less.
The Ukrainian club coped with the task, but it was not easy for them to achieve the desired result. The hosts won the first quarter with a difference of +14. By the big break they were leading by 11 points, and in the middle of the last period Pienaar led 81:60. But the guests managed to put on a strong finish and achieved the required lead. The final defeat 84:89 made Prometheus a two-time winner of the Pinar Cup.
In addition to the team success of Prometheus, an individual award can be noted: Ondrej Balvin was recognized as the best center of the tournament.
In just a week, Prometheus will start the new season of the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League against BC Viimsi. Let us remind you that Ginzburg’s team became the champion of last season’s LEBL, beating Riga’s VEF in the final match.
Prometheus also applied to participate in the new Ukrainian Major League. The application was granted – and the club became a member of the Ukrainian Major Basketball League for the 2023/24 season.
