Mikhailiuk: I have to shoot and create space for other players

Ukrainian guard Boston Celtics Svyatoslav Mikhailyuk spoke about his tasks in the new team.

“I think it’s pretty obvious why I came to Boston: they’re one of the best teams in the NBA and have pretty high expectations every year. I personally want one thing: to win. We have a great group of people here, players and coaches. The organization is quite large, and we have the opportunity to do something big and special. I want to be part of something special.”

“The task is quite obvious: I have to throw. Help the guys, create more free space for them. Once I’m free, I have to look for the basket and make the right move every time.”

“Of course I understand my role. Must work conscientiously in defense, act correctly both in defense and in attack. Must be a good support for other players and try to integrate into the team as best as possible.”

“The longer you are in the NBA, the faster you learn. I know a lot of Boston basketball players because I played against a lot of them. As for me, after changing several teams, I feel that I now know how it all works. It’s easier for me now, I’ve crossed paths with many players before and the guys treat me well.”

Let us remind you that earlier the Celtics officially introduced Mikhailiuk as their new player. It was reported that Svyatoslav would sign a one-year agreement.

It was previously reported that the shooting guard was given a partially guaranteed contract worth $200,000. If Mykhailiuk makes the starting lineup, the guaranteed amount will increase to $1.2 million. The contract will become fully guaranteed in January.

In the 2022/23 season, Mikhailyuk played 19 games for the Charlotte Hornets. On average, the guard scored 10.6 points and made 2.7 assists per game.

Last season, Boston reached the semifinals of the NBA playoffs, where they lost to Miami (the series score was 3:4). The new NBA season starts on the night of October 24-25.
