Greiner’s wife says she wants to see more action from US authorities to bring basketball player back from Russia

Sherell Griner, wife of an American basketball player Britney Griner said she wanted to see more action from US authorities that would facilitate the athlete’s return from Russia.

Greiner was arrested in February on suspicion of trying to smuggle hash oil through Sheremetyevo airport. A criminal case has been opened for drug smuggling. She faces a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years. The athlete, who plays for UMMC, has been taken into custody, investigative actions are underway.

On Friday, a hearing was held behind closed doors at the Khimki District Court. The summoned witnesses did not appear at the hearing, which was finally postponed to July 7.

“It’s very, very difficult. This is not a situation where statements match actions. Unfortunately, I have to pressure people to make sure their words and actions match. I can’t give up. It’s been over 130 days and Britney still hasn’t come back,” Sherrill Griner quoted CNN.

Additionally, the athlete’s wife said she plans to meet with US officials to make sure they “are at a stage where they’re really doing everything they can to bring Britney home.”

“I won’t trust US authorities until I see actions that are in Britney’s best interest. I want her back from Russia. Whatever you want, please ask for it,” Sherrill said.
