“I think the Swede wanted to play for the Euroleague team, but did not receive a suitable offer” – Elevich about the basketball player’s departure to China

Honored coach of Russia Sergei Elevich believes that Alexey Shved wanted to play for a club playing in the Euroleague, but chose the Chinese championship, because there was no financially profitable offer from Europe.

Earlier, Shved’s agent Obrad Fimich told that the basketball player was in the process of obtaining a work visa for China, where he plans to continue his career. The 34-year-old Shved’s previous club was CSKA Moscow, which he left this summer.

— I think Alexei wanted to play for a Euroleague team. After all, he is an experienced player with a good basketball history. But he probably thinks he doesn’t have much left to play. However, the era of sports is not very long. I think, having now decided to go to the Chinese Championship, he took the easier route. Because apparently no one made him the kind of offer he wanted to see.

— Are you talking about the financial aspect?

– Yes. Because he will play for another year or two, and no one knows how life will turn out. I wish Alexey only success. He is a professional, a man who knows what he wants. I wish his sporting life to last as long as possible, ”Elevich told the correspondent.

The Swede is a bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympic Games, best sniper at EuroBasket 2017 and two-time top scorer in the Euroleague (2017/18 and 2020/21 seasons).
