The Santiago 2023 Pan American Games activity has officially begun. 3×3 basketball was the first to see action on the field of our sport. Both the men’s and women’s teams made their debut against Uruguay, with different results. Luciano Santín’s men lost a match they clearly dominated, while Sofía Castillo’s team added their first victory.
A missed opportunity
The group consisting of Juan Fernández Chávez, Ariel Ramos, Felipe Bonfigli and Gerónimo Ramallo seems to have everything under control. With a good start they were able to escape by seven points (20-13) with a conversion to take the game with 2:14 left. From that moment on, there have been bad decisions for our country as a whole. Ineffective three-point shots, some unforced turnovers and, most importantly, poor defensive decisions. From there, Charrúas made it 8 to 0, taking the game 21 to 20 with 4 seconds left on the clock.
Ramos was the leading scorer of the Albiceleste team with nine points (with 5/12 on field goals), followed by Juan Fernández Chávez with 6, while Agustín Wolinsky contributed 5 points. On Sunday the 22nd they will take to the field again. From 4:00 pm they will face Chile.
The women, on the right foot
The reality is different for our country’s women’s team. The girls came out with a lot of energy and managed to quickly separate themselves on the scoreboard. Beyond a few unforced losses, those led by Sofía Castillo moved the ball well and took advantage of the one-on-one game to add.
With shared points, beyond being effectively imperfect, the Argentines managed to win the first match 18 to 9. Natacha Pérez was the team’s top scorer with 6 points. He was accompanied by Aylin Valdéz, author of 5 units. Ornella Santana contributed 4 goals, while Delfina Gentinetta finished with 3.
The girls will take the field again on Sunday. From 2:30 pm against Brazil. The complete event can be seen on the TyC Sports Play platform.
