Jacque Vaughn explains Ben Simmons’ minutes tracking

Point guard returned to play for the first time with the Brooklyn Nets shirt since February, but was on the bench in decisive moments of the franchise’s debut match

Jacque Vaughncoach of Brooklyn Netsexplained the reason behind controlling the point guard’s minutes Ben Simmons in the match this past Thursday, 25th, against Cleveland Cavaliers. The number 10 entered the court for the first time since February, but ended up being on the bench in decisive moments in the debut of the 2023/24 season.

“You will see in our group that we will share these minutes throughout the year. My intention was not to try to tire anyone at the beginning of the game. I didn’t even intend to leave Mikal Bridges on the court for 35 minutes. But you’ll see our minutes vary across the board because we have depth and versatility. So this won’t be the last time this happens. Our players don’t play more than 30 minutes because we have to play very hard and I don’t want them to lose rhythm.”said the coach, at the press conference after the defeat, explaining that he is trying to limit the minutes of all athletes.

Simmons played for the first time since February, spending the remainder of the 2022-23 regular season due to injuries. Recovering, the point guard stated that he would not have a minutes restriction, but he played only 23 minutes and was on the bench in crucial moments at the end. Ben was even asked about the matter, replying that “they would have to ask the coach that question”. The player was responsible for four points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, as well as being very effective on defense.
