The Argentine Women’s Basketball Team faced their Cuban counterpart for bronze at the Pan American Games. It was a victory for the Giants, who redeemed themselves from their fall against the Central Americans on their debut and settled for third place.

The fight for third place in the Pan American Games is completely dominated by the albiceleste team. The Giants led the scoreboard from the opening minutes of the first period and never let the game turn around. For its part, Cuba tried to dominate in the second quarter, managed to get close to the bottom, but Argentina pulled away again.
Already in the second half, Mauricio Santangelo’s team achieved the maximum advantage, with 15 points in favor to mark the distance between the teams. The Central Americans again got within a point and Argentina once again marked its superiority. The last quarter was nothing more than a formality for the Albiceleste team who won by nine points.
The standout in the bronze selection was Candela Gentinetta. The Obras player contributed with a double double of 19 points and 11 rebounds, and also made an assist. Another great performance was Camila Suárez who added 27 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
In Cuba, the standout was Anisleidy Galindo with 27 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
The Bronze Giants and the meaning of the tournament
Argentina won the Pan American bronze in the 19th edition of the tournament held in Santiago, Chile. This is a historic milestone since the Giants won their first medal in this competition. Today, the Pan American Games will determine their two remaining spots in the match between Brazil and Colombia, which reached the fifth game.
