LaMelo Ball will need to cover neck tattoo due to rule

Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball tattooed the initials of his last name on his neck, which are also those of his clothing brand

Again, a player from NBA will need to cover a tattoo made as a result of a league rule. The entity asked that LaMelo Ballshipowner of Charlotte Hornets, covered the tattoo he got on his neck, for breaking the rule that prohibits players from having commercial logos on their skin and hair. The information was given by the American “ESPN” journalist, Adrian Wojnarowski.

The drawing in question is the initials “LF”, which LaMelo tattooed under his left ear, referencing his middle surname, “LaFrance”, which is also the name of his clothing brand. According to Woj, the conversation between the two parties lasts weeks and, more recently, the player started covering it with tape to avoid fines.

LaMelo and his representatives argue that the design is about his last name, in honor of his uncle, and that the ship owner already owned it before the brand was launched. In a statement, Tim Frankspokesperson for the NBA, stated that “According to the [acordo de negociação coletiva], players are prohibited from displaying commercial logos or corporate insignia on their bodies or hair during games. We try to enforce the rule reasonably, in accordance with its purpose and taking into account players’ efforts to express themselves in a non-commercial way. But LaMelo Ball’s neck tattoo clearly violates the rule and therefore he is required to cover it up”.
