Independiente de Oliva hosted Gimnasia y Esgrima de Comodoro for the National League at Gigante de la Ruta 9. It was a victory for Verde in extra time after dominating the match but losing I in the end. Comodoro’s team was able to end the bad losing streak they were going through.
Green Magic returns to victory
The match in La Rioja was green from the start. The Comodorenses quickly took the lead on the scoreboard thanks to Brandon Nazione (18 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal). The American center finished with a double double. But his most notable part was in the start for Gimnasia that took a 14-point lead over Independiente at halftime. The maximum distance they reached in the entire match.
Already in the second half, those led by Leo Villagrán were unable to maintain their position of more than ten points ahead. The local team gradually got closer, Independiente was able to take the lead in the last quarter. It’s only two units and includes Salvador Gilleto (12 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block) as the team leader. However, Gimnasia recovered and tied it at the end at 73.
Extra time again showed the hierarchy of the MVP of the match, Gerard De Vaughn (23 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals) was clutch. With a double double like his compatriot, he was decisive in the visitors’ victory in five extra minutes. I came close but Gerard made his two free throws awarded after a foul and defined the distance.
What’s next for you two?
The winning team, Gimnasia, will continue its route to Córdoba to visit the Instituto. Both are coming off important game wins in overtime and on the road, so this will be a great matchup to watch. While Independiente will leave the locality to reach Greater Buenos Aires and Junín, they will be present at Fortín de las Morochas. I and Argentino must win if they want to avoid dropping to the bottom of the table.
