Former coach of the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA, Doc Rivers declared that the Old Continent produces better basketball players than the USA; check the speech
Doc Riverswho coached some teams in NBA, compared European and North American players in an interview with journalist Bill Simmons’ podcast. According to the former commander of Philadelphia 76ers, athletes from the Old Continent are better prepared compared to those born in the United States. In his argument, the coach spoke about the differences in competitive spirit.
“These young American players need to be careful because Europeans are better when they enter the league. They are better prepared. They are competitive, and a lot of our young players are not. They join the league and want to put on a show.”said Doc. The coach, however, highlighted how pressure on prospects can interfere with this phenomenon.
“A guy who records the games says that the American players play six games a week and have one training session. European players have one game a week and six training sessions. With all these games, you stop being competitive.”, he explained. Doc also advised how players can stay at closer levels in the NBA.
“This needs to be fixed because we have the talent. The players are much more talented than we were. It doesn’t even compare, but they don’t know how to play. They don’t know how to play basketball as a team. Everyone has these individual coaches. In Europe, they have team coaches”he determined, suggesting changes in the training system.
