Giannis wants to play for Greece if they qualify for the Olympics

The pivot of Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo revealed this last Thursday, 22, that he would like to work for Greece if the selection qualifies for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Greek team was unable to secure a place in the FIBA World Cup, but will try for one of the last four places available in the pre-Olympics. During a press conference after the 119-116 loss to Boston Celticsthe player was asked about the possibility of wearing the Greek shirt in the next competition, and stated that he was waiting in Paris if your home country manages to qualify.

“Right now, I’m looking forward to seeing my kids, playing against the Washington Wizards, and having a good season after that. I hope we can bring another title to the franchise. After that, try to qualify for Paris because we haven’t qualified yet. If all these things happen in order and we get to Paris, I will be excited to be there.”, he said. Greece is not yet qualified for the Olympics because it did not win one of the two European places for the Basketball World Cup, remaining 15th in the overall standings with two wins in five matches. The Greeks, alongside Spain, Latvia and Puerto Rico, are the favorites to host the pre-Olympic tournaments, and could host the Greek Freak on the court, as they take place between the 2nd and 7th of July, nine days after the date for a possible Game 7 of the NBA Finals in 2024.

Giannis is enjoying his 11th season in NBA Since being drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 15th pick in 2013, he has already won the awards for Most Improved Player in the 2016/17 season, Defensive Player of the Year in 2019/20, two regular season MVPs in the 2018/19 and 2019/ 20, in addition to being selected for seven All-Star Games and lifting the long-awaited NBA title in 2021, being elected MVP of the finals.
