Miriam Adelson, owner of a casino chain in Las Vegas, buys the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks for an absurd amount, but will keep the former owner in charge

According to the website “The Athletic”, the Dallas Mavericksteam NBAwas purchased by Miriam Anderson, fifth richest woman in the world according to “Forbes”. The billionaire agreed to purchase the majority of shares in the Texan basketball franchise for US$3.5 billion (around R$17 billion).

Miriam has assets valued at US$32.3 billion (R$158 billion) and is the majority shareholder of the company Las Vegas Sandsone of the main casino owners in the city of Las Vegas. In total, the rich woman is listed as the 35th richest person in the world. Mark Cuban, current owner of the basketball team, will remain in control of the franchise’s operations and will remain with part of the shares. The businessman bought the Mavericks in 2000, for US$285 million.

The NBA still needs to approve the negotiation, however, the agreement is already considered closed by the American press. Miriam Anderson and Mark Cuban have common goals: to build a new sports arena in the city of Dallas, integrating basketball and casino areas. However, they are getting complicated by the legislation of the state of Texaswhich prohibits gambling.
