La Magia Verde played in the semifinals of the South American League against Titantes de Barranquilla in Montevideo. Gimnasia fought as equals, but the Colombian team was more in the second half. Now the Patagonia team will have to fight for third place against a rival that will be determined between Instituto and Caribbean Storm.
Titans 83 – Gymnastics 74
The match played at the Palacio Peñarol had an atmosphere worthy of a final. They were unable to pull within ten points in the first half, although the Titanes led the scoreboard for the longest time, Gimnasia struggled. Thanks to Joshua Webster (22 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal, 1 block) Green finished the first minute, leading by one unit. However, with the good defense and help of Jonathan Rodríguez (17 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals). Those from Barranquilla retired at half-time with two more goals than the rival.
The second half was more of the same. The Titanes took the lead while Gimnasia were on par with the Colombians and at times leading the way in goals. Juan Tello (20 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals) was very important in this part for the winning team. Once the barrier of 60 units was reached for Tomás Diaz’s team with great efficiency, they distanced themselves from the Comodorenses. They gradually scored until they reached the maximum of 12. The Green Magic tried until the end, but they fell by nine points and now they will fight for third place with a rival to be determined.
What next?
Now Titanes and Gimnasia have to wait for the end of the second semifinal between Instituto and Caribbean Storm. From that match the rivals of the two will emerge, whoever wins, will play in the final of the South American League against the people from Barranquilla, who are destined to be undefeated. And whoever loses will play for third place against Comodoro Rivadavia’s team. There could be a final with the Colombians and a third place with the Argentines.
