La Gloria and Caribbean Storm played in the semifinals of the South American League to advance to the final match. Instituto won and will play Titanes de Barranquilla for the title on Sunday, December 3. The San Andres team will face Gimnasia y Esgrima de Comodoro for third place.
Caribbean Storm 69 – Institute 83
The battle for the pass to the final played at the Palacio Peñarol, was entirely for the people of Córdoba. After a few minutes for the Colombians on the scoreboard, Instituto settled down and did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the match. Mauro Cosolito (12 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists) was the key in the beginning for Gloria to win the first quarter by seven. The second period was where Lucas Victoriano’s team separated on the scoreboard. With so much solidity, they entered the break leading by double digits.
In the second half, the Caribbean Storm got closer to their rivals, but they could not overtake them on the scoreboard. Luis Bethelmy (12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal) was part of the rise of the Caribbean team. However, Gloria imposed its interior game on Javier Saiz (17 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist) and again distanced itself. Throughout the last quarter, they maintained a distance of plus ten, the Córdoba team finished the match with 14 more units than their rival. In the Caribbean Storm, Víctor Liz was excluded due to a double technical foul. Today the Instituto will play in the grand final against Titanes de Barranquilla.
What next?
Lucas Victoriano’s team will play in the grand final after five long years after losing to SESI Franca. They will face the undefeated Titanes de Barranquilla in a heated match to show which team is the best in South America. On Wednesday, November 29, they met for the same competition and the Colombian team won by five points. While Caribbean Storm will compete for third place against Gimnasia y Esgrima de Comodoro, Magia Verde wants to stay on the podium, so it will be difficult for San Andresans.
